By Aggrey Buluba

Earlier today, Honorable Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, lit up the headlines yet again with a fiery press conference at his home in Magere, Wakiso District. The National Unity Platform president took center stage to give his side of the drama that unfolded on September 3rd in Bulindo, where he he was “gifted” with a tear gas canister to the flesh by the police, an encounter that left him with wounds and a date with surgeons at Nsambya Hospital.

With cameras flashing and journalists on the edge of their seats, he began his speech with all the suspense of a detective thriller. “Whatever the police said in their statements,” he declared, “are nothing but lies!” He accused the police of playing a game of selective editing, conveniently cutting and pasting CCTV footage to create their own version of events.

According to Bobi Wine, the alleged incident took place right in the middle of CCTV camera range, but somehow, the footage that could reveal the full picture remains as elusive as a magician’s trick. “The CCTV cameras are always inactive whenever tragic incidents happen,” he quipped, suggesting the cameras have an uncanny knack for malfunctioning at the exact moments when the truth is most needed, mostly when it involves the police.

And then came the plot twist! Bobi Wine dropped a bombshell, recounting the tragic story of Ritah Nabukenya, who he claims was intentionally knocked down by a police vehicle right in front of the very “magically inactive” CCTV cameras. But the then police spokesperson, John Enanga, came out with the classic excuse: “Oh, the cameras were not working at that particular time.” Naye banangeeeeeee!!

Bobi Wine wasn’t done there. He rolled out a list of similar incidents involving NUP supporters who met untimely fates, with police explanations that, once again, rested on mysteriously malfunctioning CCTV systems.

Wrapping up his speech like the final act of a courtroom drama, Bobi Wine declared, “There can never be hope of getting the truth with this police which is allergic to it!”

His comments have left the country buzzing with speculation, and the police with some serious explaining to do. Will they respond to the challenge, or will this be another case for the “Detective Bobi” files? Awo nze naawe.
Tova ku watchdog kuba tukyakuwereza! The truth might still be out there… somewhere!
