In a continued effort to address cross-border crime, delegations from Uganda and Rwanda are set to hold a three-day meeting in Mbarara, following initial discussions held three months ago in Nyagatare, Rwanda. This meeting, scheduled to take place at Las Vegas Hotel in Mbarara, aims to build on the progress made during the previous discussions.
This follows a similar engagement that was held in Nyagatare, Rwanda three months ago.
As part of their journey to Mbarara, the delegations made a courtesy stop at Kabale District Headquarters, where they were warmly received by the LC 5 Chairperson, Mr. Nelson Nshagabasheija. The visit provided an opportunity for the leaders to engage with local officials and reinforce the importance of regional cooperation in combating cross-border crime.
Maj. Tabaro Kiconco, the 2nd Infantry Division Public Information Officer, emphasized the significance of the ongoing talks.
“This meeting is a crucial follow-up to our previous discussions in Rwanda. Our primary goal is to enhance security cooperation and develop effective strategies to combat cross-border crime. We are committed to working closely with our Rwandan counterparts to ensure that our communities remain safe and secure,” Maj. Kiconco stated.
The Ugandan delegation, led by Brigadier General Paul Muhanguzi, and the Rwandan delegation, headed by Brigadier General Nelson Rwigyema and Colonel Pascal, are expected to engage in comprehensive discussions over the next three days. These talks will focus on enhancing security measures along the Uganda-Rwanda border, improving intelligence sharing, and addressing other pressing issues related to cross-border crime.
The public and stakeholders in both countries are hopeful that these meetings will lead to tangible results that will enhance security and foster stronger ties between Uganda and Rwanda.
