Kiruhura: One shot dead as boda boda riders storm police station to kill suspected thief

Police in Kiruhura district is investigating circumstances under which a mob of boda boda riders attempted to raid Kikatsi police post on Friday with intention of lynching a suspected Motorcycle thief.

A suspected thief identified as Kadu Mukasa,40, hails from Ssembabule district and was handed over to police by boda boda riders in company of the area local defence after being suspicious of his intentions.

According to the Rwizi regional police spokesperson Samson Kasasira, as police officers were carrying out due process of interrogating the suspect at the police station, a group of boda boda riders in the area that had been called to rescue their colleague became unruly and attempted to grab the suspect from Police custody.

This prompted Special Police Constable Tumwine Emmanuel attached to the Police Post to discharge bullets in the air to disperse the crowd but they kept advancing towards the officer and he ended up shooting Nabaasa Innocent who died on the spot and injuring  Nasasira Moses, 28, a mechanic and a resident of Kikatsi trading centre who was rushed to Mbarara regional referral hospital for treatment.

According to Kasasira,three Motorcycles were impounded that included UFB 700 Z, UFL 396 C from the mob and UFD 777 E of the deceased was also impounded.

The body of the deceased was taken to Mbarara regional referral hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Kasasira also revealed to our reporter that SPC Tumwine has been apprehended and his gun AK47 UPF No.4756-128133363 with 27 rounds of ammunition exhibited as inquiries into the incident are underway.
