Rukungiri: Man killed for calling someone a dog

Police in Rukungiri district is investigating circumstances under which a man aged 30 was allegedly killed for calling a colleague a dog.

The deceased has-been identified as Edward Niwamanya Edward,a resident of mukatojo cell , Rubanga parish, Buyanja sub county Rukungiri district and was allegedly killed by Andrew Ahereza aged 32 ,Boda-Boda rider of the same address.

It’s alleged that on December 1, 2019 around 9pm, Niwamanya ,was with his brother Brian Namara in his bar at Mukatojo trading Centre when the suspect came in. They had an argument and its here that Niwamanya called Ahereza a dog, something that made the latter angry.

“it’s at that time that the suspect allegedly grabbed the deceased and put him down, Namara Brian separated them and advised the deceased to go home,” Elly Maate, the Kigezi regional police spokesperson told watchdog Uganda.

According to Maate, the deceased went home with the brother and when they reached in the banana plantation of a one Keibaraza, the deceased told Namara  that he had become weak and wanted to rest first. Namara left him there and continued home.

On Monday at around 8am, information was received that Niwamanya was dead, and unknown people organized a mob and went to the home of the suspect to revenge.

They destroyed his house and stole everything in there, injured nine goats and destroyed home utensils.

Niwamanya’s body was taken to Rwakabengo health center III mortuary pending postmortem, as the suspect is on run.

The case has been registered at Rukungiri police under file number CRB 1735/2019.

Similarly, Crescent Ahereza, 23 years, a former student at Makerere college of Business and computer studies Rukungiri campus was murdered on allegations of theft.

George Mbihweireho, 70 the chairperson local Council one of Rwamunyinya cell, Masya parish Nyakagyeme sub county Rukungiri district who reported the matter to police said Ahereza was caught red handed stealing students’ properties in their campus at night.

It’s alleged that the deceased having been a student of the same college, had been residing in the campus neighborhood.

Preliminary investigations indicate that very often Ahereza would go to steal students property but could go unnoticed until on Sunday night at around 8pm when he went to the college, entered one of the resident Halls to steal and the students arrested him from therein, before they tortured him.

It’s reported that Ahereza was taken to his residential place for search where some stolen items were recovered.Then he led them to another person a one Niwenyesiga Keneth whom they also arrested and tortured as well.

On Monday at around 8pm the director of the college Rev. Natuhwera Ronald brought the duo to police and reported cases of theft against them, police realized that Ahereza Crescent was in bad condition and advised him to take him for treatment.

According to Maate,the director took Ahereza to Rukungiri health center IV where he was pronounced dead hours later.

This case has been registered at Rukungiri police under file number CRB 1739/2019.
