Senior Presidential Press Secretary Don Wanyama has downplayed Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi’s Time 100 Next’ achievement as ‘small’, advising that the youthful legislator should be mindful of the foreign friends he is making.
Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine made it to the ‘TIME 100 Next’ list of the world’s most influential people. The list spotlights 100 rising stars who are shaping the future of business, entertainment, sports, politics, science, health and more.
Although he has been lauded by many upon the achievement, Wanyama told NBS Television’s Morning Breeze host Njala Kaggwa that Bobi Wine made the list because of music and not politics ‘like you want us to believe.’
“He deserves his kudos but the recognition was in line with the arts but most of you are giving us a political perspective which is not true,” Wanyama said, adding that the West is always on the lookout for several puppet leaders to use including Bobi Wine.
“They always look out for puppet leaders and use them to effect change. I am not saying that Bobi Wine is a puppet but some of those awards don’t mean anything,” he said.
When asked whether an award such as the Nobel Peace Prize wouldn’t mean much to President Museveni, the former Daily Monitor Managing Editor said the President doesn’t work for prizes.
“The President will not lose sleep over such awards. These is no bigger award other that Ugandans giving you another (presidential) term after every five years.
