Rubuguri police station in Kisoro District is investigating circumstances under which a man, who was allegedly poaching was shot dead by the Uganda wildlife Authority (UWA) Personnel.
Its alleged that on October 6, 2019 at about 6pm, UWA personnel attached to Nkuringo Ranger Post in Nteko, Nyanwishenya in Kisoro district were on their normal foot patrol in Bwindi Impenetrable forest National Park and they meet three poachers in the National Park.
On confrontation, one poacher identified as Kakuru, 28,resident of Nteko village was shoot dead. One poacher was arrested and his particulars have not yet been secured and another one ran away, according to the Kigezi region police spokesperson, Elly Maate.
The incident happened at River Ivi in Bwindi National Park.
Suspect identified as Kaheru John, 28 a Ranger attached to Nkuringo Ranger Post has been disarmed and detained.
The scene has been secured by UPDF and UWA personnel.
The case has been registered at Rubuguri police post under file number SD: 09/6/10/2019.
