The Uganda Police Force working together with the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) have managed to arrest a bodaboda rider Mpanga Sharif commonly known as Shafik who is believed to have directed Maria Nagirinya’s murderers to her home.

On 28th August, Nagirinya together with her driver Ronald Kitayimbwe were kidnapped at her gate in Lungujja in Rubaga Division, Kampala at around 11 pm.

After three days their lifeless bodies were found dumped in a swamp in Nama sub-county in Mukono district.

The 28 year old was working as a project manager at Community Integrated Development Initiative (CIDI), a Muyenga based non governmental organisation.

While addressing journalists on Monday, Police Spokesman Fred Enanga said that Mpanga is the last murder suspect who has been on the run.

“Mpanga facilitated the double kidnap and murder of Nagirinya and Kitayimbwa when he transported the assailants or perpetrators to Maria’s gate, he remained there on standby waiting for any emergencies to facilitate a get away process and he is also the one who carried out a survey of the place where the dead bodies were to be thrown,” said Enanga.

Enanga added that the arrest of Mpanga brings the number of suspects to six.

Last week, Sadat Kateraga aka Baros who was the ring leader and the brain behind the plots conducted by this criminal gang was also arrested.

“Our task team is carrying out investigations deeply to find out whether there was any other person involved,” he

Police have also put to stand a version which was brought by the group of Kasolo Copliano , Kalyango Nasif and the rest where they were saying that they got the plot of killing Nagirinya during their time while at Luzira prison serving their sentences.

“They allege that somebody while in Luzira indicated to them that Maria Nagirinya is someone who moves with big sums of money such as Shs50m, however this is not conclusive we expect that the task team is going on with its work and at end of the day they will give us the clear motivation behind this entire plot,” noted Enanga.

Meanwhile in the case of Entebbe express highway double murder of Joshua Rushegyera Nteyireh and Merina Tumukunde police have not yet gotten any breakthrough.

Last week five suspects were arrested from Bushenyi and Mbarara, statements were obtained from them and investigators are going deep into their defence statements.

“Five of the suspects include Kamugisha Deus a lawyer, Mwijushe Yafesi also a lawyer from Mbarara, Dr Sangaire and two cousins that is Ayebazibwe Peter and Martin Lusegyera carried out separated transactions that were involved in with the late Rushegyera.

Police recorded statements from all the five and they are to help the police to prove or disprove them, all of them were released on the Police bond over the weekend as investigations go on,” the police mouthpiece said.
