The Ntungamo Resident District Commissioner George Bakunda has lauded NRM government for introducing programs aimed at eradicating poverty at grass root levels such that every Ugandan can be free from bondage of vicious cycle of poverty.

Bakunda said that had it not been President Yoweri Museveni  and first lady Janet Kataaha Museveni the ongoing social-economic empowerment program geared at  empowering  people of Ntungamo on how  to eradicate poverty would have cease to exist in the district.

He made remarks on Friday while launching the loan scheme money disbursement in Ntungamo district under the socio-economic empowerment program ahead of President’s visit to the district on Sunday May 12, 2019. Museveni will preside over the national celebration to commemorate the International Nurses day to be held at Kyamate SS play ground Ntungamo Municipality.

This program was launched by the President and first lady on January 10 this year in Ntungamo district and is being implemented by Free and Rich Uganda aimed at boosting business for the women and youth in order to increase on their household income, self reliant and fight poverty at household level.

At least 66 groups in all sub counties and town councils have been selected to benefit in the first phase of the presidential pledge of Shs330 million and each group of 10 people will take Shs5 million.

Bakunda called upon beneficiaries to be transparent with government funds and utilize the monies according to the proposals and projects that were submitted when they were applying.

He warned them against using money to unproductive ventures like weddings, burials and other luxurious things.

The Ntungamo district chairperson Dennis Singahache asked them to always calculation and follow systematic plan in implementing their projects saying when one fails to plan it means that one is planning to fail.

Singahache advised the beneficiaries to be honest with funds and use it for viable projects like piggery, tailoring and apiary if they are to fight poverty in their communities.

The director of Free and Rich Uganda Aijuka Rodgers commended the government for using Free and Rich in order to chase poverty in Ntungamo.

Aijuka said that noted they started with 6 groups but others groups will receive theirs soon because all funds are on Free and Rich Uganda bank account.
