Court Martial gives former Flying Squad commandant Muhangi bail

Herbert Muhangi, the former commander of the Flying Squad has been released on bail.

Muhangi, who was arrested mid last year is accused of failure to protect war materials, as well as kidnap and repatriation of Rwandan Refugees, and unauthorized issuance of guns to members of the public.

On Tuesday, Lt Gen. Andrew Gutti, the General Court Martial chairman released Muhangi on a non-cash bail of Shs10 million.

Muhangi, who has been on remand at Makindye Military Police barracks was also ordered not to leave Kampala without permission from court and report twice every month to the same court.

Gen Gutti said he was satisfied with all the sureties presented by Muhangi, and that he ‘has been a long serving high ranking officer who has never been convicted of any criminal offence.’
