The Prime Minister (Katikkiro) of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga has said National Resistance Movement (NRM) has done better than the past regimes in Uganda.
NRM party under the stewardship of President Yoweri Museveni has been in power since 1986 (33 years).
The Katikkiro made the revelation on Monday while addressing the Buganda Kingdom Lukiiko at Bulange, Mengo.
He said he agreed with the fact that Museveni’s government has done better than the past governments but comparing the country’s level of development basing on the past regimes is wrong because they represent different eras.
“The truth is that in many ways, NRM is far better than Amin and Obote’s regimes. If one doesn’t know, he has not studied history,” said Mayiga.
Adding, “However we should compare development to countries like Singapore, Malaysia that were at the same level with Uganda at the time.”
The Katikkiro also warned people to be careful with the wrong information being published on different social media platforms that aim at tarnishing images of high profiled personnel.
“They [some groups] are specially targeting those in high profile positions. People in high positions are being witch-hunted and blackmailed.”
