The Electoral Commission (EC) will spend Shs868 billion in the next general elections that will take place in 2021.

The revelation was made on Tuesday morning during the launch of Electoral Roadmap for 2020/21 general elections at Hotel Africana.

According to EC chairman Justice Simon Mugenyi Byamukama, the elections are expected to cost Shs368 billion more than the Shs500 billion used in the 2015/2016 elections.

He further revealed that the elections will take place between January 10 to February 8, 2021.

Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, who was the guest of honour said the timely launch elevates Uganda’s good standing in the community of democratic governance.

“It shows that Uganda is independently organising credible elections,” he said.

Adding, “I call upon all political parties to organise themselves in line with this road map. On behalf of the government of Uganda, I assure you of our commitment to provide funds where we can afford in timely manner for the activities.”
