The Uganda Police Marine unit along with Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) have so far rescued 26 people alive and retrieved over 23 dead bodies following a boat accident that took place on Saturday in Mpatta Sub-County in Mukono District on Lake Victoria.
The KPalm boat was headed to KPalm resort in Mukono when tragedy struck.
Among the survivors include Prince Daudi Kintu Wasajja , businessman Freeman Kiyimba and musician Irene Namubiru who is currently in hospital according to events promoter Balaam Barugahara.
The rescue mission is still ongoing for the missing persons.
While appearing on NBS TV on Sunday morning, Deputy Army spokesperson Lt. Deo Akiiki revealed that over 100 people were on board when the tragedy took place.
He says though the rescue mission is still ongoing, they don’t expect any more survivors.
Lake Victoria is the largest lake in Africa and the third largest, by area, in the world after Lake Superior and the Caspian Sea. It is approximately 26,590sq miles.
