Police communications department is still offering contradicting statements as to why they raided Kira Municipality Member of Parliament and opposition chief whip Ibrahim Semujju Nganda’s home on Thursday.

At the scene, the police officer who led the operation, Sabira Musani told journalists and the public that Semujju’s notifying letter was received late.

However, Semujju claims that he wrote a latter to the Inspector General of Police Martin Okoth Ochola and the district police commander to notify them about his rally as required by the Pubic Order Management law early enough.

Musani, also the regional police commander said; “Nganda was not in position to hold any rally in Kireka because his letter informing police about the rally came late to the concerned officers.”

For that matter Police blocked him from leaving his home and also called off the rally.

However, when Watchdog contacted Police spokesman Emilian Kayima, he said he notifying latter reached police in time but they advised him not to hold the rally since it was near Jokas hotel in Kireka.

Kayima said because the hotel had a number of guests waiting for the football match between Uganda and Cape Verde due to take place on Saturday at Mandela National Stadium he had to put his rally on hold.

“Jokas Hotel is housing many guests so this rally was going to be disruptive. We advised Semujju to change the date but he remained adamant,” said Kayima

According to Semujju, the director of operations Assistant Inspector General of Police AIGP Asuman Mugyenyi gave him a a go ahead to hold the rally, even giving him a signed document.

However, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson says police advised Semujju to change the venue of the rally because some activities going on in the area and questioned the said the document purportedly signed by Mugyeni.
