President Yoweri Museveni will on November 21 officially launch the Uganda National Dialogue (UND).
The launch will focus on three key outcomes that include; formally adopt the UND process framework paper, which sets out the agenda and modalities for the dialogue, Set up thematic working groups that will focus on the agreed dialogue agenda themes and authorize the planned formal nation-wide citizens’ consultations to take place in all the sub-regions of the country.
According to Justice James Ogoola, chairman of the Elders Forum of Uganda, the dialogue will ensure that all segments of Ugandan society are represented in the different aspects of the process.
“The design of the dialogue process is premised on the fundamental belief that national diversity is an asset rather than a problem. Therefore, representation must reflect gender, ethnic, regional, religious, demographic and other forms of diversity that characterize the Ugandan society,” said Justice Ogoola.
Sheikh Shaban Mubajje, chairman Inter Religious Council disclosed that dialogue will provide all Ugandan citizens an opportunity to proactively address root causes of conflict, instability and injustices that have afflicted the nation since independence.
“The Uganda National Dialogue process seeks to provide all Ugandan citizens an opportunity to proactively address root causes of conflict, instability and injustices that have afflicted the nation since independence. Over the last half a century of independence, Uganda has attained relative levels of security and stability, the pillars of democracy have been built, and the foundations for sustainable peace and shared prosperity are in place. Uganda has established itself as a leader in regional, continental and global politics, economics and international security,” he explained.
Adding; “Indeed, internal and external factors can threaten national security, peace, and democracy that have been achieved and undermine over half a century of protracted work and struggles by different Ugandan generations. The Uganda National Dialogue Process is envisioned to provide an enduring nation building platform that keeps together different blocks – diversities that make Uganda a nation that it aspires to be,”
The Uganda National Dialogue is being organised by Inter- Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU), The Elders Forum of Uganda (TEFU), Inter-Party Organization for Democracy (IPOD), National Consultative Forum (NCF), Citizens Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda and Uganda Women’s Network (UWONET).
