Gen Kale Kayihura is set to face the General Court Martial in Makindye on Thursday, after more than two months in jail.

Reliable but unconfirmed reports have intimated to Watchdog Uganda website saying, the former police chief will face Lt Gen Andrew Guti to answer to crimes the military held him over.

If the court appearance takes place, this will be an unprecedented for the general who served the military and police at the highest level.

Also, Gen Kayihura is set to appear before the General Court Martial on the same day as pop star turned politician Bobi Wine.

This website is not certain about the charges to read for Gen Kayihura, however, it will be the first time the state will officially reveal the actual reason the former IGP was picked from his farm at Kashagama Lyatonde district on June 13. He was later transferred to Kampala. The Military statement did not say much but simply indicating that Kayihura as a serving soldier was needed to interact with his boss, the chief of defence forces, Gen David Muhoozi. Although Kayihura is held in relative comfort, he told his lawyers that he was not in hurry to go out of prison, to allow the authorities investigate his case.

The other high profile prisoner at Makindye barracks is Robert Kyagulanyi who has captured the imagination of the world since he was arrested last week in Arua and reportedly beaten to pulp. He is also expected to appear before the General court martial in Makindye, though some reports indicate he will taken to Gulu.

President Museveni has issued statements saying Bobi Wine followers have been violent, and himself fell a victim of their “violence” when fans allegedly threw stones at the president’s motorcade.

Bobi Wine, Francis Zaake and other 33 people including MPs have not been free since the eve of voting in Arua Municipality.
