The parliamentary health committee member and who is also Ntungamo District woman MP Beatrice Rwakimaari has commended people living with HIV/AIDS for embracing the drug adherence which will enable them to live longer.
Rwakimaari was happy to note that some positive living people have come out openly to sensitize others about the drug adherence and prevention regardless of stigmatization they may encounter though some drugs like septrine are still lacking in some health facilities in the country.
Speaking at the handover of seed money five women groups in sub counties of Nyakyera, Ntungamo and Rubaare today, she said that most people living with HIV/AIDs in Ntungamo have stopped from taking ARVs which has resulted to drug resistant and death especially to newborn children.
Rwakimaari also noted that the seed money (Entandikwa) was given to five groups of 30 people each who nursing children with HIV/AIDS to improve income sustainability at house hold level.
The two year project is being implemented by Netherlands NGO Aidsfond in conjunction with a local NGO ARISE/TAFU phase II to reduce HIV/AIDS infections in newborns especially through mother to child transmission in sub counties of Nyakyera,Rubaare and Ntungamo from 2017 to June 2019.
Aidsfond is currently operating in 5 Districts of Mubende,Soroti, Mityana,Kyenjojo and Ntungamo focuses on community involvement in the fight against pediatric HIV/AIDS.
The project officer TAFU II Innocent Mwesigye revealed that over 27 children have so far been helped to get drugs and they are now well.
All members of the groups of Kikoni Magaramarungi,Butare Kwetungura,Kibingo Tukwatanise,Rwenyonyozi development Assn and Kyabukuuju Tukore have hailed MP Rwakimaare for lobbying for them and their children.
