The military has dispelled reports that former police chief Gen Kale Kayihura is under arrest.

Brig Richard Karemire, the military spokesperson told a local radio station that Gen Kayihura has never been arrested and not in military detention.

While speaking to CBS radio on Tuesday morning, Brig Karemire said the military was consulting Gen Kayihura on a number of security issues. He said the military has no plans to bring Kayihura in court because there are no charges against him.

Gen Kayihura was picked by the military from his country home in Kashagama, Lyantonde District. Reports say Gen Kayihura was arrested and detained at Makindye military Barracks beyond the lawful 48 hours. The general was expected to be produced at the Military Court on Monday but didn’t show up.

Despite Karemire’s denial, the family of Gen Kayihura has hired lawyers to represent him. On Monday Angella Kayihura, the wife of the General announced Kampala Associated Advocates as lawyers of the embattled former Police chief.
