President Yoweri Museveni has today contradicted with Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) over the number of soldiers who were killed by Al-shabaab in Somalia over the weekend.
On Easter Sunday, the army said they lost only four gallant officers and six sustained minor injuries in the attack, which was repulsed with heavy casualties among the extremists.
However, President Museveni has revealed that Uganda lost eight soldiers during the attack.
He posted on his official Facebook page;
”On Easter Sunday our soldiers in Somalia heroically gave serious blows to Al-Shabaab, killing 36 of them and destroying six vehicles full of explosives. This was because they were alert.
Unfortunately, two vehicles of the enemy entered one of the three sites attacked. One vehicle was detonated and killed eight of our soldiers. May their souls rest in eternal peace.
I extend condolences to their families. It is gratifying, however, that the bold but adventurous strategy of Al-Shabaab failed. With constant vigilance, victory is assured. I congratulate our soldiers for the good work, the death of eight of our soldiers notwithstanding,”
