Kenya’s main opposition figure Raila Odinga has faulted his Ugandan counterpart Dr. Kizza Besigye for swearing as Uganda ‘President’ without having backup plans.
Odinga who has already set 30th January as his inauguration ceremony, says they will follow a strict programme during the event since they already have a backup plan unlike Besigye who just carried a Bible to swear in without a proper plan.
“We now have a plan,” Mr Odinga said. “It is not about carrying the Bible alone. We must have a plan after the Bible. We don’t want to be like (Ugandan opposition leader Kizza) Besigye, who took oath without a plan.”
Following the October 26th election that the opposition boycotted, there has been pressure from some of Mr Odinga’s supporters for him to be sworn as President.
However even as the opposition takes this path, the Daily Nation reports that some of Mr Odinga’s co-principals in the National super alliance (NASA) like Wiper democratic movement head Dr Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka are urging Kenya’s president, Uhuru Kenyatta, to embrace dialogue to save the country from the effects of the post-election standoff.
It should be remembered that after the 2016 presidential elections, Besigye claimed that he had won though his votes were rigged.
The four time presidential candidate along with his FDC party members went ahead to carry out an inauguration ceremony thus declaring Besigye as president.
He was later arrested, charged with treason, and jailed in Karamoja, and when he was granted bail, police put him under house arrest in his Kasangati home.
