National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition leader Raila Odinga has said that he will be sworn in as President of Kenya on December 12 – Jamhuri Day – the day that marks the country’s independence.

Mr. Odinga, who was addressing his supporters near Jacaranda Grounds in Nairobi’s Eastlands area minutes after Uhuru Kenyatta was sworn in to office for his second term, said they do not recognise him as the president.

“Uhuru Kenyatta is not the president of Kenya. We do not recognise the October 28 election, that was a fake election. 83% of the population boycotted the election,” he said atop his car.

Mr. Odinga, clearly buoyed up by recent events in Zimbabwe where President Robert Mugabe was forced out of office and his former Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa sworn in days later as interim president, the opposition chief said they will follow that lead.

You all know Raila Odinga is not a coward… In Uganda, (Kizza) Besigye was sworn in as president, last week, Mnangagwa was also sworn in but we’ll not do it like Besigye, we will do it like Mnangagwa where he was sworn in and got into State House.

Mr. Odinga said that he will be sworn in by the people saying that they will have a People’s Assembly on December 12 where he will be officially inaugurated.

Moments later, as he handed the microphone to Musalia Mudavadi, police descended on the rally with tear gas and sent everyone, Mr. Odinga included, scampering.
