Uganda People’s Defence Forces High Command and Defence Forces Council have warned Ugandans not jeopardize national security and stability because of the age limit issue.
The army officers made the remarks during meetings at State House on Wednesday and Thursday attended by the commander in chief, President Yoweri Museveni.
They urged Ugandans to exchange views in a free, rational and civil manner thus recommending that the age limit debates should be focused on destiny as a country and by extension of the continent.
“On the unnecessary anxiety arising from the current debate on the Constitutional Amendment Bill 2017,” said UPDF Spokesperson Brig. Richard Karemire said the army top brass, “urged all Ugandans to exchange views in a free, rational and civil manner that does not in any way jeopardize national Security and stability.”
Apparently, the contentious age limit bill being moved by Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi has attracted criticism from several parts of the country many people claiming that is meant to spearhead Museveni’s life presidency.
In the same meetings, the army officers reviewed the current security situation in the country and the region noting with great satisfaction the prevailing peace and stability and the immense strides the country has made in terms of all round recovery.
