Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) striker Geoffrey Serunkuuma was entrusted with the powers by Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin Sredojevic to lead the national team.
The lethal forward was on Monday named captain of the Uganda Cranes team that is preparing for the 2018 Championship of African Nations qualifier against South Sudan.
Serunkuuma believes it is a great achievement for him to captain the national team and promises he will deliver to the expectations of the coach.
It is an honour for me to wear the national team’s armband. It doesn’t easy because you have got to be exemplary to the rest of the players,
Serunkuuma told www.kccafc.co.ug after the team’s training session on Tuesday after at Namboole Stadium, he also added.
I’m happy that for the time I have been on the national team, I have showed great character and thus the coaching staff saw leadership skills in me. I therefore pray and promise that I will fulfill the obligations ahead of me
Serunkuuma had a scintillating season scoring over 30 goals for club and country and has been a regular on the national team.
He scored the lone goal as Uganda edged past Cape Verde in the opening game of the 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The KCCA FC Most Valuable Player of the season joined the national team training on Monday with six other KCCA FC players at Mandela National stadium.
Uganda takes on South Sudan on Friday this week at Juba Stadium before a return leg a week later at Star times stadium.
The winner on aggregate between Uganda and South Sudan will play either Rwanda or Tanzania to determine the team that will represent the CECAFA region at the biannual tournament to be hosted by neighbours Kenya.
