Health Ministry apologizes for the ‘negligence’ of Uganda Cancer Institute resulting to the death of a cancer patient

The Ministry of Health has come out to regret the death of a cancer patient who was neglected for 60 hour by doctors at Uganda Cancer Institute until he died.

Simon Ekongo, 22, died on 12 June,2017 at Uganda Cancer Institute compound where an ambulance driver who transported him on referral from Kiruddu Hospital, a Mulago Hospital affiliate, reportedly abandoned him.

“The ministry of Health regrets the death of the cancer patient , which occurred on 12th June 2017 at the Uganda Institute compound . Preliminary reports indicate that the patient passed on in a tent, which serves as a waiting area for health education,” statement partly reads.

Meanwhile, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the Health Minister has ordered the Uganda Dental and Medical Practitioners Council to investigate the matter to its logical conclusion.

“This investigation is expected to take one week,and the public shall be duly informed of the the results,” Minister Aceng said.
