Rebecca Nyadeng De Mabior, the widow of late leader Dr. John Garang has declined her appointment by President Salva Kiir Mayardit as Member of the newly reconstituted steering committee for South Sudan national dialogue. She stated in a statement extended to Nyamilepedia,
In a respond to statement she issued to her inclusion to the new committee given by Republican Order issued on April 25, 2017, Rebecca Garang, Member of South Sudan Leaders also known as G-10, says she is for the inclusive national dialogue but apparently sees that the mandate of the newly appointed committee is not clear and also questions the inclusivity of the national dialogue.
The vocal politician says she was not consulted when she was appointed by the President, only to learn her appointment from social media like any ordinary South Sudanese. She believes that President Kiir would agree with her that the humanitarian crisis in South Sudan is in a stark reality that is expanding in scale and in need of immediate rescue and that the leaders must work together to rehabilitate this National Dialogue and create an environment that allows for the participation of all South Sudanese. She urges that this is the time to be frank, truth and honest in order to avoid a prolonged conflict that has pushed the population to the edge of existence.
“In order to demonstrate our commitment to peace, we must admit to our faults and set aside our differences. I am ready to fully commit myself to a genuine and inclusive national dialogue in which the people of South Sudan are represented rather than unilaterally decreed,” she stated.
