Internal Affairs minister Gen Kahinda Otafiire has warned the controversial son of the late Bonney Katatumba, now under spotlight for flashing a red passport he’s not entitled to have.

Rugiirwa Katatumba is said to be in possession of the highly valued ‘diplomatic’ passport. However, he’s not in the category of people supposed to carry one.

Rugiirwa, well known for in the night life of Kampala circles has left many Ugandans asking how a person carrying a red passport can show it off in a bar!

The red passport is a preserve of very distinguished persons such as the President, First Lady,  Speaker of parliament, Chief Justice, ministers, permanent secretaries, Bank of Uganda Governors among others.

According to the Daily Monitor, Internal Affairs Minister Gen. Kahinda Otafiire who was a close friend to the late Bonney Katatumba, has said his office has never issued a diplomatic passport to Rugiirwa. He asked for an investigation into how he obtained it.

“I worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Now forget that I am the Minister for Internal Affairs. I am a former diplomat. I know how these things are done. Even children of diplomats don’t get diplomatic passports once they turn 18. At 18, they got their ordinary passports, so i was his father’s friend who was a diplomat, not him. I have no idea how he got the passport, ” he said.

Giving diplomatic passports to ordinary individuals like Katatumba lowers the credibility of the Uganda VIP document and therefore it’s important that the authorities do the needful.
