Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) has commemorated the World Consumer Rights Day in Jinja today and teaching consumers about their rights.
This is the fourth communication consumer parliament on the theme” the media we want.”
Engineer Godfrey Mutabazi, the Executive Director of UCC has said that this day an opportunity for promoting the basic rights of all consumers.
“Social media is a fashionable thing yet people know nothing about how it works or the one controlling it.” Eng. Mutabazi said.
He has also said that the person controlling and hosting these social network sites/ applications when he gets a problem, the consumers also suffer.
Eng. Mutabazi advised that people should develop their own applications and host them using NITA and Uganda Internet Exchange Point so that they are not disturbed with social media and in about two years they must be able to have users both in Uganda and worldwide.
UCC has partnered with Airtel Uganda, MTN Uganda, Africell Uganda and DSTV to organize the event.
At the event people have been allowed to ask questions which UCC answered, taking the opportunity to announce that out of a the 250 radio stations only 25 stations break and out of the 20 Television stations only 3 have broken.
