Bank of Uganda Governor Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile has paid tribute to the former finance Minister Joash Mayanja Nkangi who succumbed to pneumonia on Monday.
Prof Mutebile said that Bank of Uganda is grateful to Nkangi for being an icon of trust and a humble man who fought hard to restore the value of Ugandan Shilling which was down during his stay as the financial minister.
“Nkangi did his best to promote agriculture in the country that made the farmers of coffee acquire market for coffee which boasted Uganda’s economy,” prof Mutebile said.
Nkangi was made minister of finance in the year of 1989.
Prof Mutebile added that nkangi ordered for the opening of markets that made farmers get opportunities to sell their goods that added value to Uganda’s shilling in the country and also East Africa at large.
The deceased will be laid to rest in Kanyogoga, Kalungu district today at 2 pm.
