Vipers sports club was held to a scrappy 0-0 draw by Maroons FC in their sixth pre-season friendly played on Tuesday evening at the prisons grounds in Luzira.

Jorge Miguel Da Costa’s men failed to put the ball in the back of the net while playing against newly promoted Azam Uganda premier league side Maroons FC.

Erisa Ssekisambu who played for 60 minutes threatened and forced Maroons keeper Akol Emmanuel to make a save in the opening half and before Yayo Lutimba’s low shot was punched out by Ashadu Bugembe later in the other part of the game but the score remained the same throughout the encounter.

Da Costa kept faith in his team, maintaining ten players that started in the 2-0 win over Nkumba Super Eagles last week, except Duncan Seninde who started at the bench at the expense of creative midfielder Moses Waiswa.

Mousa Mbayi and Ssekisambu started upfront while Brian Nkuubi, Moses Waiswa, Tadeo Lwanga and Hassan Kalega played in the four man midfield with Musa Malunda (captain),Shafik Bakaki, Yayo Lutimba and Ashraf Mandela completing  the backline.

Kalega went close to finding a goal for the Venoms but was ruled offside by the assistant referee.

Vipers were put under some pressure with twenty minutes left to play allowing their former player William Wadri to strike the ball just outside the box before James Alitho swung into action to make a low save.

Vipers made some changes after the hour mark and their high press saw them cause threats for the hosts but no ball past the keeper.

Deus Bukenya, among those introduced at half-time, fired the ball wide and out in the 81st minute as the Venoms were held.

Vipers will host the Prisoner Warders at the St Mary’s stadium in the first round of the Azam Uganda league on 2 December 2017.

Vipers XI:

James Alitho,Ashraf Mandela, Yayo Lutimba, Musa Malunda, Shafik Bakaki,Tadeo Lwanga, Brian Nkuubi, Moses Waiswa Hassan Kalega, Erisa Ssekisambu, Mousa Mbayi

Subs:
