President Yoweri Museveni

In an interview carried in Daily Monitor of yesterday Monday, August 26, 2019, prospective presidential aspirant, Mr. Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine (MP, Kyaddondo East constituency) states that he would grant the National Chairman of NRM, President Yoweri Museveni, amnesty and appoint him as Advisor if he (Kyagulanyi) came to power.

First of all, as a legislator, Mr. Kyagulanyi is in power. He can work with the NRM National Chairman in the area of empowering Ugandans to prosper economically. It does not require first becoming President to do that. Museveni himself started opening the eyes of citizens to prosperity way before he knew he would be President. This fact has been extensively revealed during his recent countrywide Wealth Creation tour.

Secondly, offering to grant Museveni amnesty is an interesting goodwill gesture but it is not necessary. National Chairman Museveni has committed no crimes warranting a threat to his liberty and freedom like all other law-abiding Ugandans. In any case, if any crimes have been committed, he would willingly attend before the courts of law to clear his name.

The offer of appointing him Advisor is also an interesting gesture but it contrasts with what Bobi Wine has been saying about the incumbent in different forums, locally and internationally. The position is not clear but also, the aspirant is trying to endear himself to the majority of Ugandans who are firmly behind the NRM National Chairman because he is who they need.
