A 41-year-old man has hanged himself at the residence of the area chairperson in Kanungu District, Uganda.

The deceased, Abel Tugumizemu, a resident of Nyabihoko cell, Nyamigoyi parish in Kanyantorogo sub-county, visited the home of the area chairperson, Benson Rwabihogo, on October 21, 2023, around 6:00 PM, expressing concerns about being followed.

Due to the late hour, the chairperson provided him with a room to spend the night, intending to address the issue in the morning.

Tragically, the following morning, Tugumizemu was discovered hanging in the same room.

Elly Maate, the Police spokesperson for the Kigezi Region, confirms that the police were notified, visited the scene, and retrieved the body from the rope.

Dr. Yosamu of Kanyantorogo Health Center 3 conducted a postmortem at the scene, and the body was subsequently handed over to relatives for burial.

Maate states that inquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of the hanging.
