Former opposition Ministers Betty Olive Namisango Kamya, Florence Nakiwala Kiyinji and Sarah Kanyike have been dropped from Museveni’s new list of Ministers.

Museveni released the names of new Ministers yesterday, ending weeks of intense anxiety and endless speculations.

The outgoing cabinet was dissolved on the 3 of May, making it over a month of the president running the country without Ministers for the first time in the 35 years of the National Resistance Movement NRM government.

A number of names from the previous list of Ministers did not make it to the new ones. Among those include new converts from the opposition – Kamya, Nakiwala and Kanyike.

Betty Olive Namisango Kamya, formerly of the Forum for Democratic Change -FDC and Uganda Federal Alliance [UFA] joined the ruling side in a post election reshuffle in 2016. She would go on to serve as Minister for Kampala and Minister for Lands untill last month. In the new appointments, she finds herself demoted to a Presidential Advisor on Kampala.

As for Florence Nakiwala Kiyinji, the good memories of her time in the ruling side has been shortlived in deed. After a one term stint at the Youths and Children’s Affairs docket, her failure to win an attempt to make it to the eleventh Parliament didn’t help her. She has thus been dropped with no any other appointment to console her.

Just like Nakiwala, Hajjat Sarah Kanyike also finds herself missing from the new list of appointments. Unlike Nakiwala who had warmed the ministerial position for some years, Kanyike has been Minister for less than two years, having been appointed to the elderly docket early last year.

Formerly a trusted deputy to Mayor Erias Lukwago, Kanyike had earlier been tipped for bigger things in the opposition Democratic Party before she was praised away by General Museveni. She has however been appointed a Senior Presidential Advisor on Kampala.

Former FDC Secretary General Beatrice Anwar aka Mama Mabira was however retained as State Minister for Water and Environment.

In a surprise appointment, FDC Deputy President Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwawo has been appointed Minister as well.
