President Museveni has said that the people of Rukungiri tricked him in 2018 and wasted his billions.

In mid April 2018, President Yoweri Museveni donated money, trucks, mini buses and an assortment of machinery worth Shs5 billion to 110 groups in Rukungiri District, ostensibly to help them fight poverty.

While speaking to a hundreds of leaders from Kigezi Sub region that had gathered at Kigezi college Butobere secondary grounds on this week, Museveni said government was poised to facilitate 16 organized and registered associations with money to boost them, but noted that he had done the same in Rukungiri unfortunately the locals tricked him by not heeding to his advise of improving their livelihoods as well as by not support the ruling party.

“I did that in Rukungiri last year but the people of Rukungiri were tricking me. They wasted all the money,” Museveni said.

Museveni’s donation came at a time when there was an ongoing by.-election in the district for the area woman mp. Unfortunately his NRM candidate Winnie Matsiko lost the race to Forum for Democratic Change (FDC)’s Betty Bamukwasa Muzaniira.

On March 22, the Court of Appeal nullified the election of Matsiko citing irregularities during the 2016 polls.

While at Butobere, Museveni promised to fund associations in Kabale but urged them not to be like the people of  Rukungiri who disappointed him.
