A 27-year-old man has been sentenced to 17 years in jail for defiling his nine year old niece and infecting her with HIV virus.
High Court Judge Alex Ajiji on Wednesday David Kayondo guilty of the heinous crime.
The state prosecutor told the court that Kayondo started defiling the victim as early as May 2016 and had made it a routine whenever his sister (the mother of girl) was at work.
“We are all aware that Kayondo is HIV positive,” said the prosecutor. “Also, the girl pinned Kayondo, saying she had been abused several times.”
According to the victim, her uncle threatened to harm her in case she reported him to the authorities.
But due to the too much pain she was under going, she told one of her neighbors, who told the mother.
The matter was then reported to police.
Kayondo, a resident of Nakulabye Hozana zone, in Rubaga division pleaded guilty and asked court give him a lenient sentence on the grounds that he did not waste court’s time.
