Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander CP. Frank Mwesigwa yesterday met bar owners around Kampala, Metropolitan Area at Emerald Hotel who raised concerns regarding the conduct of police officers, celebrities and other VIP officials that move with private security.

Bar and entertainment venue owners voiced their security concerns that needed immediate intervention which included crime preventers and police officers that don’t identity themselves in case of any security inquiry, need for security of their clients as they go back home and police response towards emergency calls.

He pointed out that the goal of most bars, taverns, lounges and nightclubs is to provide a hospitable gathering place where people can have a good time.

“Every establishment’s management has a general responsibility to use reasonable measures to provide a safe environment for its customers plus its employees, vendors, etc”,Mwesigwa said.

He asked the bar owners to carefully screen their security employees for clear criminal backgrounds, handle any arrests or incidents involving assaults along with maturity, good judgment, have the ability to talk with customers without appearing threatening or intimidating and in the event of a serious incident, the relevant authorities should involve the area police authorities.

This is aimed at reducing the problems of loosing jobs and having their places being shut down by the relevant authorities.
