Former FDC president Dr. Kizza Besigye and FDC Presidential aspirant Patrick Amuriat have been arrested in Kabale on their way to the campaign rally.
The main opposition figure was escorting Amuriat to his campaign venue in Kabale town when police intercepted their convoy at Rubare which is about 2km from Kabale town. Besigye and other FDC leaders were stopped from accessing the campaign venue but as the scuffle ensued, they decided to arrest the two leaders.
Besigye’s convoy was leaving Rukungiri through Kanungu-Kisoro road as they had received information that police was waiting for them along Ntungamo road, which is shorter.
On Wednesday, FDC National Mobilizer Ingrid Turinawe accused police of siding with candidate Mugisha Muntu and suppressing his opponent Amuriat.
She said Muntu has been giving a green light to carry out his campaign rallies in several parts of Uganda but Amuriat have been denied such opportunity.
