The Minister for Agriculture Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja has been named in Lwera wetland scandal after a one businessman John Sebalamu revealed to Lands Commission that he sold him a wetland.
The Commission led by Justice Catherine Bamugemeire stormed the Lands offices in Masaka from where they discovered that one of the titles worth one square miles of a wetland in Lwera was actually sold by Ssempijja to Sebalamu.
According to the businessman, he bought two square miles of wetland ; one in Mpigi and another one in Kalungu in 2010 from the late Mayanja Nkangi (former chairman of Uganda Lands Commission and Ssempijja respectively.
“The two square miles, one in Mpigi and another one in Kalungu are legitimately mine. I bought it in 2010 from the late Mayanja Nkangi (former chairperson Uganda Land Commission) and Mr Vincent Sempijja, the Agriculture Minister, respectively, and whatever I’m doing on it ,is legal,” Sebalamu told the Commission.
Currently, the commission headed by Justice Catherine Bamugemereire has camped in Masaka to hear cases of land wrangles in the region.
