The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Mike Chibita has revealed that he doesn’t work on orders of the Central Bank.
This comes after Bank of Uganda forwarded a request to the DPP telling him to prosecute property mogul Sudhir Ruparelia who is being accused of siphoning over shs400 billion from the now defunct Crane Bank.
Chibita said his office cannot work under the direction of anyone.
“The decision to charge is for the DPP. It can’t be at the request of anybody; but we received a letter from the Bank,” said Chibita as quoted by Daily Monitor.
He further indicated he is still studying Central Bank’s request to prosecute Sudhir.
Three weeks ago, Bank of Uganda sued the Ruparelia Group chairman alongside his Meera Investments Company in Commercial Court seeking to recover shs397 billion he allegedly took out of Crane Bank.
Earlier this week, Sudhir requested for 26 files from Bank of Uganda to enable him file for his defence in court.
