High court Judge Justice Elizabeth Kabanda has failed to grant bail to jailed Makerere University research fellow Dr. Stella Nyanzi thus ordering Buganda Road court chief magistrate to hear her bail application on 10 May, 2017.
Justice Kabanda has ruled that magistrates court has power to entertain application for mental examination in Dr. Nyanzi’s case where the applicant sought an order to strike out state’s application for mental examination & grant of bail.
Stella Nyanzi, a virulent government critic on social media, is facing criminal charges for allegedly insulting President Yoweri Museveni in a Facebook post.(cyber harassment and offensive communication).
Recently, presiding Magistrate James Ereemye of Buganda road Court remanded Dr Nyanzi without hearing her bail application.
