Photos: One killed as Sino truck crashes through Kiwatule traffic, damages 10 cars

One person has been confirmed dead after a truck filled with aggregate stones crashed through early morning traffic along Ntinda-Kiwatule Road.

The truck also damaged close to 10 cars and two bodas and caused injuries to eight people who have since been admitted to several hospitals including Mulago Hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Matovu William, 32, a rider, who succumbed to injuries he had sustained during the accident at Kampala Independent Hospital.

According to witnesses the a Sino truck registration number UAX 495M was sloping from Nalya to Kiwatule when it failed to brake, ploughing into the said cars at 8.20am.

The damaged cars are UBB 659N WISH, UAK 716R RAV4, UAX 469C HIACE, UAW 188E HIACE, UBA O88X PREMIO, UAV O12Y PLATZ, UAP 700X MERCEDES, UAZ 388J HIACE, UAZ 203C SUBARU while the registration numbers of the destroyed motocycles are UGC 198S and UEN 075F.

 

The driver of the Sino Truck is currently on the run.

The Thursday morning accident comes a few months after 16 people nursed serious injuries after a runaway truck loaded with granite ploughed through stationary cars at the Kira Road traffic lights.

The accident happened at about 5:15 pm on April 24, 2019  when a Ford truck registration number UAA 497L which was coming from Bukoto, failed to brake, jumped two red lights and ploughed into seven cars.
