Democratic party in Mukono have resolved to support only one opposition candidate for the upcoming local council elections as part of the party’s initiatives to dislodge National Resistance movement from the district.
The resolution was reached at the meeting held at the home of the area Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze who also doubles as Chairperson for the district.
While meeting aspiring candidates in Mukono district at her home on Sunday afternoon, MP Nambooze, said insecurity and other problems in the country can only be stopped if persons of integrity were elected as local council leaders.
She explained that they are vetting the best candidates for LC1 and this system shall be rolled out countrywide.
The chairman of DP in Mukono Municipality Hajj Seggayi said that DP in Mukono prides in setting an example for the rest of the opposition in the country.
“In the last elections we won by 90%, and we want to outperform the last elections. By 2021, this system shall give us a strong platform on the ground to enable us to win the next General elections with close to 100%.”
Mukono Municipality has about 79 villages however more than 300 people turned up for the strategy meeting.
On June 24, DP leaders said they will hold a mega rally in Mukono Town to sensitise people about the local council elections and the DP president Nobert Mao was expected to be the chief guest.
LC1 elections are due to take place on July 10.
