Today, Paul Williams, the Stockton South MP in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament excited government critics when he called for President Yoweri Museveni’s retirement.
“Will the government use CHOGM to give a message to Uganda’s President Museveni that after 32 years in power he’s become a barrier to his country’s development and that good governance includes leaving office?” inquired Paul Williams during a parliament session.
He later tweeted: “Today I urged the International Development Secretary Penny Mordaunt to use the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to tell Uganda’s President Museveni that it’s time to go. President Museveni has become a barrier to Uganda’s development.”
Now, State House Press Secretary Don Wanyama has responded to Williams saying that he should forgo his colonial mentality by thinking that the Western metropolis should determine what happens in Africa.
Wanyama further advised the British MP to show Ugandans some respect since they know what is best for them.
Wanyama wrote, “This UK MP still possesses a colonial mentality where he thinks Western metropolis should determine what happens in Africa. Mr @PaulWilliamsMP show Ugandans some respect. We know what’s best for us. Have you stopped to ask how long the Queen has been on the throne?”
