President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Sunday met with the Archbishop of Kampala Cyprian Kizito Lwanga at Nakasero State Lodge.
The two senior citizens discussed various issues including the need to overcome the critical relationship between the State and Church.
The meeting came at the heels of claims by the Archbishop on Easter Sunday that government has planted priests to spy on him.
Lwanga said an anonymous caller had told him that the government had recruited priests, nuns and other clergy as undercover agents.
“I got an anonymous call nothing showed on the screen of my phone. The caller told me that some of your religious leaders of all faiths, both Christians and Muslims, are working for government and have been recruited. So I told him I was not aware. Then he told me, ‘Be careful, you might be the next Janan Luwum’. And I told him if God is calling me that way, fine,” he said.
On Easter Monday, President Museveni spoke with Lwanga over the phone and they later agreed to meet on a way forward on ironing out the standing matters.
Following the meeting, it has been reported that investigations into the spying matter are underway by the relevant authorities.
