Days after main opposition party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) announced a drive to donate blood following scarcity in the country, Nakasero Blood Bank has called off the donation alleging that there’s enough blood now.

So far we are not sure whether this move has been taken by government to suppress opposition plans as it has been doing in the past.

However, according to the Director Uganda Blood Transfusion Service, Dr Dorothy Kyeyune, Ugandans should worry no more because currently there’s enough blood to supply all hospitals and the crisis has been handled.

“There is no more blood shortage crisis, Nakasero blood bank has of this morning 5000 units of blood. This is just central but also other regional banks are restocked,” she said.

For nearly two weeks, Uganda Blood Transfusion collaborated with different organizations in attempt to re-fill the blood banks nationwide and also plan better for future need.
