Vipers SC was the biggest winner after beating Kampala regional side Katwe United Football Club 1-0 on Monday evening to win the Independence Cup.
Yayo Lutimba’s free kick which was punched back into play by the Katwe keeper was slotted in by Mousa Mbayi Clovis in the 7th minute to make sure the Venoms earn an early lead.
The hosts trailed for the better part of the game after Mbayi’s goal and their efforts to level matters diminished with each passing minute.
Allan Bukenya’s through pass was curled over the bar by his teammate before another chance, moments later went wide.
The home team put up a good fight however, their resilience did not help as Vipers’ maintained a solid defense.
It was a frustrating evening for the hosts whose fans had turned up in large numbers.
Da Costa’s side is yet to concede a goal in four league outings and the win was a big thing for the Portuguese who won his first trophy at the club.
‘I am thrilled by the win and happy for my teaml,’ Da Costa remarked.
Vipers will continue to prepare themselves for the resumption of the Azam Uganda premier league with another build up game tomorrow with Nkumba University in the evening
