Following the news of President Yoweri Museveni dropping Luuka District Woman MP Esther Mbayo from Cabinet on Tuesday 8, scores of her critics thronged the streets of some urban centers to celebrate her fall.
Mbayo who has been the Minister for Presidency was dropped from Cabinet and replaced with Presidential Senior Advisor on political Affairs Milly Babirye Doka Babalanda. Babalanda is also the head of Museveni’s political office – Office of the NRM National Chairman at Kyambogo.
Residents from the areas of Kiyunga, Lambala- the minister’s place of birth and Busalaamu where she resides among others are some of the places that celebrated Mbayo’s political misfortune on Wednesday morning.
The overjoyed residents who spoke to our local reporter accused the embattled politician of not doing enough to help the locals benefit from the appointment and also underlooking her voters who led her where she has been.
” We are very happy that she has been dropped. Her position has not been useful to us the voters but to her alone. It’s now very good that she will be a common MP like many of her other 500 counterparts,” Said Mawerere Alex of Lambala.
Others have also accused Mbayo of the use of excessive force as a show of her authority while serving as Minister. Often times, she would threaten those that politically differed from her.
“She has been threatening that she would change the face for whoever dared oppose her. Let’s see how she will change it from outside the cabinet,” One resident told our reporter.
Meanwhile, Mbayo’s axing has generated a wider public debate with many postulating the cause of her fall from Museveni’s favour.
The embarrassment that President Museveni endured during his May 12 swearing in has partly been blamed for Mbayo’s misfortune.
Organised by her in her capacity as Minister for the Presidency, Museveni had to look in humiliation at the floppy function where some guests failed to have seats, a disgusting public address system, no food for some guests and Mbayo’s faults in observing protocol at the Kololo independence grounds event.
