Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze has called her party president Norbert Mao ‘a pumpkin with yellow substances inside’.
Last week, four-time presidential candidate and Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president Rtd Col Dr Kizza Besigye unveiled what he called ‘Peoples’ Government cabinet’ giving some members of the Democratic Party (DP) portfolios.
These included Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, who was appointed vice president and Nambooze who accepted the minister for Kampala Capital City Authority and Information portfolio.
However, this did not please their party president Mao.
On Tuesday during the DP’s weekly press briefing at City House, Mao said that their (Lukwago and Nambooze) fate will be discussed in the next National Executive Committee meeting.
“There is no way you can be fully immersed as part of the leadership of another political party and at the same time, you belong to the Democratic Party. We don’t want watermelons in DP – green on the outside but with many colours on the inside,” Mao said in reference to Lukwago.
However, on Wednesday during the press conference held by the Leader of Opposition (LOP) Betty Aol Ocan at Parliament Nambooze got a chance to react on her party leader’s comment, saying: “If Mao says we are watermelons, then he is a pumpkin – Yellow inside but green outside.”
She added that Mao should invest his support in any opposition movement that is trying to fight dictatorship rather than attacking them.
On the matters of being expelled from DP Nambooze said that they are ready to be expelled from DP and bounce back, as heroes, after liberating Uganda.
