The confusion in the Democratic Party (DP) has taken a new twist, now with party member Betty Nambooze asking that her colleagues ‘style up’.
Just recently, the oldest political party in Uganda pulled out of the Inter- Party Organisation for Dialogue (IPOD) summit claiming they couldn’t hold talks with ruling National Resistance Movement since they only care about keeping themselves in power.
“As DP, we are not comfortable at all to sit with the ruling party NRM to discuss anything to do with the way forward for this country, they do not have faith, instead they care about their stay in power,” said Kenneth Kakande, the party’s spokesperson.
At the weekend, the party made a u-turn and revealed that they will be part of the summit.
“IPOD will never go away. We will participate in the talks. Let us give Mr Museveni a chance to implement the resolution after all he is no longer as strong as he used to be and has lost influence even in his party,” DP President General Norbert Mao said on Sunday.
The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday December, 12.
However, according to Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Nambooze, the party should stand by one decision.
This being the first invitation from the party am getting after a long period I would have loved to act to it positively but surely don’t we have an image to protect as a Party. How can we say one thing and do the other?,” the legislator inquired.
Nambooze further revealed that since the party made a comeback, the secretariat has been sending her invitation messages almost every top of the hour.
Here is the message Nambooze receives from DP:
