The planned reunion meeting for Uganda Young Democrats in Mukono town could flop.
The meeting was planned to take place in Mukono on Wednesday but sections of the organizers have called for the suspension of the rally pending the release from jail and full treatment of Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze.
Former UYD stalwarts including MPs Mathias Mpuuga of Masaka Municipality and Muhammed Muwanga Kivumbi of Butambala, say the Mukono meeting should be stopped until the area MP Nambooze returns from treatment in India.
Nambooze is however still in detention after police refused to release her to receive her scheduled treatment in India. The MP’s condition on her spine has deteriorated since the time doctors gave her to receive a review ran out, as well as the accident she got while police transferred her from Naggalama police station to Kiruddu hospital.
The organizers of the meeting, such as Mukono Mayor George Kagimu says he was asked to organize the meeting by the leadership of DP in Kampala, and therefore he was expecting the meeting to take place in the town. Kagimu and Nambooze are not in good terms, and the meeting he is organizing was not blessed by the leadership of DP in the municipality.
The party’s organizing secretary Sulaimani Kidandala added that the meeting should go on since Nambooze’s condition is one of the things they were going to talk about.
However UYD reunion chairman Muhammed Kivumbi says “If this meeting is about uniting members, then we should wait for Nambooze to get well.”
