Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze was on Wednesday afternoon released from the infamous Nangalama post station after a day of police its force.

The legislator was picked from her home at Kavule in Mukono Town, without going through parliament as per law requires. Police say she said unkind words towards the late Ibrahim Abiriga.

“I wrote that Abiriga wasn’t my friend but I don’t wish him death,” Nambooze said of what she was being charged for.

A number of legislators including Kasibante Moses (Lubaga north), Medard Sseggona (Busiro east) and Winnie Kiiza (Kasese Woman and Leader of the opposition) and supporters from Mukono, stormed Jinja police station where Nambooze was detained briefly before she was whisked away to Naggalama.

Nambooze’s supporters from Mukono
MPs Kasibante, Sseggona, Lord mayor Lukwago and Nambooze’s political assistant Arthur Mugabi.

Nambooze’s lawyers LORD mayor Erias Lukwago and City advocate Samuel Muyizzi fought to secure her bond after her medical condition went out of control.

She was charged for computer misuse, the law police uses to check social media users as well as online journalists. Police says Nambooze should report back on June 19, but Nambooze is during that time required to be seeking medical review in India.
