Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze has expressed concern after the death of a woman well known to her in labor due to carelessness.
According to Nambooze, Nakyeyune Juliet, 32 a resident of Ham Mukasa Zone failed to climb the delivery bed at Mukono Health Centre IV and accidentally fell off thus rupturing her uterus.
By the time, the husband was called to assist the midwife, Nakyeyune was breathing her last and the baby couldn’t be save either.
This is one of those days when I feel so annoyed and devastated…News of a woman personally known to me dying in labour in what would be preventable circumstances.
Nakyeyune Juliet 32 years a resident of Ham- MUKASA zone properly spacing her children and with a responsible husband Isma Katudde went to Mukono Health Centre IV this morning at 5:45 am in Company of her husband to have their third child.
Because the labour ward is small and doesn’t allow for privacy of mothers, the husband was requested out by the midwife who already had two other ladies in labour.
Nakyeyune who was only minutes to deliver failed to climb the tall delivery bed and accidently fell off rupturing her uterus…by the time the husband was called in to assist the Midwife, she was breathing her last and the baby couldn’t be saved either. She is one of the 19 maternal deaths today…..another 19 will die tomorrow….its so sad.
Am sorry on behalf of Government….only if we had better maternal and labour care with wards properly equipped with enough personnel and equipments.
Next week I will go out of my way to buy some delivery beds for this health centre but will I be able to employ more health workers and even train them to be more proffessional while handling mothers? I have just spent 65 millions to buy another ambulance for my Constituency…..for sure firebrigade reactions by individual leaders will not help, what we need is a total overhaul of all the Country’s institutions.
